Why Twitter?  Twitter offers a communication platform that reaches a "mobile" parent and player via a text message delivered to their cell phone.  Twitter is a preferred method as text messaging capabilities are far more common with parents and players on a cell phone compared with email availability on cell phones.  Twitter is a free and secure text message distribution service.

The Purpose of Twitter:  Twitter will be used in the following scenario's...

  • Notify parent and player of a last minute practice or game cancellation due to sudden changes in weather conditions.
  • Notify parent and player who are on their way to a game and the coach needs to notify them of a last-minute change of field.
  • Essentially any other communication needs that are typically day of or within hours of an event where sending an email to the home may not reach the parent and player in ample time.
  • Twitter is also very teen friendly as teens do not rely on email as a communication channel, instead they communicate via text messaging.
  • Twitter is a single-source communication channel that works seamlessly amongst coaches, parents and teens.

Twitter offers a communication platform for various needs throughout the year.  To be sure you stay on top of the most relevant Lacrosse news in our community, please follow TROJANLAX on Twitter.

Reality Television

On January 21st, there was great example of how our Twitter based communication worked to ensure the safety of our players.

During the 10a-12n Junior Trojan boys select team practice, an elliptical band of yellow and red storms on the weather.com radar surrounded the Lassiter High School field where the practice was taking place. Because it was about an hour before practice was to end and it was eminent that the storms would soon engulf the playing surface, the practice was called and a text tweet was sent to the Junior Trojan parent's mobile device to pick up their player immediately. Within about seven minutes the storm crossed the field and the parents were arriving to clear their players to safety.
